I have recently been asked to share things I now know about running a business but wish I knew right from the beginning…. I enjoy reading other people’s business experiences and realising I am not alone! and hope that these blog posts will help other people too….
I am always optimistic when forecasting how long new ideas will take to establish. I now know that I need to allow twice as long as I initially thought for new ideas to be adopted by others and become profitable. I am an early adopter so tend to think that if I tell people something is good, they will sign up, but often people need to think about things for longer than me before they adopt them.
If I do not set targets, I will not achieve. I need to know what my goals are for the week and month and have a clear plan for what I want the business to be/allow me to do over the next 3 years. Whenever I am presented with an opportunity, I now check it against my goals and check that it will help me achieve them before I say yes.
